Timeline

10 Weeks

I redesigned Deltek's internal UX resource site into a centralized hub that streamlines knowledge sharing.

BACKGROUND

This UX Operations initiative optimized how Deltek’s UX team discovers and shares design resources across its enterprise products. I partnered with the UXOps Manager to audit existing documentation, organize resources, and simplify navigation. Consulting with designers, UX leads, and product managers, I prioritized content by usability and team relevance. I worked with a Solutions Engineer to align the design with Microsoft SharePoint’s capabilities.

PROBLEM

Scattered information prevents the UX team from efficiently accessing key resources, delaying project workflows.

With each quarter of Deltek UX product iterations, inconsistent documentation in a remote workspace silos design resources like case studies, research templates, and best practices across multiple platforms. This fragmentation creates roadblocks for designers and product managers, especially new hires who often seek guidance from senior team members.

OPPORTUNITY

How might we simplify access to essential resources to help the UX team feel supported, capable, and inspired?

Takeaways

Designing for my own team as a new intern was dynamic and complex. Immersing myself in how each role interacted with design resources gave me a deeper understanding of their project approaches. This guided me to align the internal repository with Deltek UX's everyday workflow patterns and collaboration needs.

Here are 3 main takeaways I learned from this project.

Adaptability is key

Passion drives my work, but adaptability proved just as essential. Discovering how the Hub had evolved alongside the UX team, I learned to let go of ideas that no longer served our goals and pivot to solutions that genuinely supported the team’s growth and changing needs.

1

Embrace systems thinking

Learning systems thinking taught me to design with the UX team’s interconnected processes and organizational context in mind. By connecting research and design workflows with institutional knowledge and legacy content, I shaped a more cohesive system that fosters collaboration and shared learning.

2

Explore shared challenges

I grounded my design process in understanding how knowledge silos impacted each user persona, mapping their journeys to reveal unique and overlapping pain points. Studying how these silos disrupted workflows uncovered opportunities to improve each role’s experience and ensure every user felt supported, driving overall team value.

Before concluding my internship I created a usability testing guide and user feedback survey for Deltek’s UX Operations team. With broader team input, UXOps planned to implement my SharePoint designs in fall 2024.
